Persons of Interest Exhibit

The Persons of Interest exhibit highlights 26 people who once called Sauk County home and were ground breakers, influencers, or just plain interesting! People like Belle Case La Follette, who grew up in Baraboo and who some say was the "brains" behind fighting Bob La Follette or Josh Sanford who was an ace pilot with the Flying Tigers and survived being shot down or ditching his plane twelve times. People from all over the county are highlighted including Dr. Alexander Wetmore of North Freedom who became the head of the Smithsonian Institution and Count Agoston Haraszthy who was the founder of Sauk City and became the father of winemaking in California after his vineyard here died.

The mansion has interactive exhibits for children including hand-crank telephones and this year visitors can try and dial a rotary phone. Children can also try a telegraph key, listen to an antique radio show, or view images through a stereoscope (the original Viewmaster).

The museum is open Friday and Saturday afternoons from 12 to 4 pm and is located at 531 Fourth Avenue in Baraboo. Historical Society members always get in free! Small charge for non-members. Children are also free!
