The Great Ice Storm of 2-22-22

Most of Wisconsin was pummeled by a ferocious winter storm on and around February 22, 1922 which left 1 to 4 inches of ice across much of the state. Trees toppled like toothpicks and electric power and telephone poles snapped leaving some communities cut off and in the dark for over a month. Across Sauk County people were transported back to pioneer times digging out old kerosene lanterns while they listened to the sound of trees cracking all through the night.

The ice storm 2-22-1922 will be the topic of a presentation on 2-22-2022 in person at the History Center at 7 pm and online on Thursday, March 3rd at 7pm.
