Canepa, Theodore T. Found eternal peace Sunday, May 12, 2002 at the age of 92 years. Beloved husband of Livia (nee Roventini) for 65 years. Loving father of Katherine (Thomas) Smith of Brookfield, WI; Richard (Kathleen) of Plymouth, MN; and Bonnie (Russell) Brannen of Brookfield, WI. Proud Grandfather of 13 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine (nee Cassata) and four brothers: Philip, Anthony, John and Christopher. Further survived by sisters-in-law: Alda Roventini of Greendale, WI; Kathleen Canepa of Westlake, Ohio; Alberta Canepa and Mildred Canepa, both of Baraboo, WI; and many loving nieces and nephews. Ted graduated in 1933 from the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1969, Ted retired as a manager of Allis Chalmers after 30 years of service. During those years, he teamed with two other employees, Tiny Menard and Carl Minor, to form the musical group "The Electronic Trio." On weekends they performed at many Allis Chalmers' employee functions. In retirement, he became a Real Estate Broker and taught at the Wisconsin School of Real Estate for many years. Ted was very active in the Madison, Milwaukee and Baraboo communities. He was a past president of the Pompeii's Men's Club, past president of the Allis Chalmers' Toastmaster's Club #189, past member of the Catholic Symphony Orchestra, honorary member of Milwaukee Musician's Union Local #8, past Scoutmaster and vice president of the St. Sebastian's Athletic Association, and past vice president of the Milwaukee 16th Ward Republican Party. In 1986, he was honored as the "Man of the Year" by Madison's American Columbian Club. In Baraboo, Ted was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus and volunteered at the Jefferson Meadows Retirement Home. He also was an active member of the "Joyful Jammers Jazz Group" in Wisconsin Dells. Of his many accomplishments, he was most proud of the work he did in 1934 to publish the first Wisconsin Italian/American monthly paper, "The Italian Leader." Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, with visitation from 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 182nd and Capitol Drive, Brookfield. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery will follow. A special thank you to Denise and the devoted staff at The Virginia Health & Rehabilitation Center in Waukesha for their loving care of "Teddy" and also to Mickey, Eric, Sarah and Tranice of Odyssey Hospice Care for their support to the family. Many thanks to Dr. Krippendorf of Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ted's name to The Virginia Health & Rehabilitation Center in Waukesha would be appreciated.
 

Canterbury, Wanda Jean. PORTAGE - Wanda Jean Canterbury, age 70, of Portage passed away on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005 at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo. Wanda was born on Aug. 7, 1935 in Kaymore, W. Va., the daughter of Eugenne and Josphine (Coppney) Parker. For entertainment she enjoyed watching the Animal Planet station and listening to country music. Survivors include her two sons, Paul Robinson of North Carolina, Roy (Cheryl) Canterbury of Pinellas Park, Fla.; three daughters, Virginia (Paul) Edwards and Bobbie Canterbury, all of Lynchburge, Va., Valerie (Paul Blaser) Canterbury of Madison; four sisters, Annie, Lucy, Betty and Sally; two brothers, Johnny and Jr.; many grandchildren, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by twin sons, Lloyd and Troy Canterbury. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home in Baraboo with Pastor Bill Metzger officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Carlin, Carl H. Carl H. Carlin of Ableman, passed away on Sunday evening, Sept. 11, 1938, at the age of 83 years. Mr. Carlin is survived by a family of four daughters, and three sons, Mrs. Maurice Kent and Mrs. Robert Coome of Baraboo; Herman, William, Anne and Mrs. August Beth of Ableman, and Paul of Gridley, Calif. The funeral was held at the Ableman Lutheran church on Wednesday, Sept. 14, Rev. Philip Lehman conducted the last rites. Oehlers and Howland had charge of funeral arrangements.
 

Carpenter Leota. Sister Dies. Miss Leota Carpenter, 66, Valton, sister of Forest Carpenter, this city, passed away Sunday in a Hillsboro hospital. Mrs. Clara Lee of Madison, formerly of Reedsburg, is a sister. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Friends church, Valton.
 

Case, Mrs. Mark (Jessop). Baraboo News Sept 22, 1955 Mrs. Mark Case, 63, of Baraboo passed away Thursday at her home. Mrs. Case was a lifelong resident of this community. Surviving Mrs. Case are her husband, Mark R. Case; one step-son, Wayne; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence DuBois of Baraboo; and Mrs. William Smith of Long Beach, California; two brothers, Wayne and Addison Jessop of Baraboo; and one grandchild, Karen Case. Funeral services for Mrs. Case will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Hanson funeral home, with Rev. Maurice E. Jones of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Cheek, Emma. Baraboo News March 12, 1942 Mrs. Emma Cheek, 76, wife of Arthur P. Cheek of this city, passed away about one o’clock Sunday afternoon at St. Mary’s Ringling hospital where she had been taken on Wednesday. Mrs. Cheek, who had been in frail health for several years, suffered a stroke on Tuesday and she did not regain consciousness. Born in Harrisville, Rhode Island, she had spent her girlhood in the east, coming to Baraboo as a bride more than fifty years ago and this city had been her home almost continuously since. She had been for many years active in the Inter Se club of this city and she was a member of the Madison chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal church of this city. Surviving her are her husband, a granddaughter, Mrs. George Burcitt of Kansas City, Mo., who arrived here Friday night, and one sister, Mrs. Ida Randall, of Providence, R.I. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at two-thirty at the Scheible and Dyrud funeral home and burial will be made in Walnut Hill cemetery. Friends wishing to call may do so at the funeral home Tuesday evening, from 7 until nine o’clock.
Clark, Dr. John R. Dr. John R. Clark, 79, LaValle, died at the Municipal Hospital on Monday morning at 3 o'clock after having submitted to an operation. Dr. Clark practiced dentistry in LaValle and in Reedsburg for about 44 years. He is survived by one son and two daughters, Warren of Hillsboro, Mrs. Fern Powell of Ironton, and Mrs. Ray Sosinsky of LaValle, and six grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, the Misses Anna, Lydia and Jennie Clark of Spring Valley, Wis. His wife, the former Pearl Cameron, preceded him in death some years ago. The funeral is to be held this afternoon, Thursday, at 1:30 at the home and at 2 p.m. at the Bible School in LaValle. The Rev. S. J. Clark, Viola M. Viola M. Clark, age 82 of Montello, formerly of rural Reedsburg, died Friday, July 18, 2003 at West Allis Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee, due to complications following heart surgery. She was born Oct. 13, 1920 in Ironton Township, Sauk County, Wis. the daughter of Clarence and Welthy (St. Clair) Palmer. On April 28, 1937, Viola was united in marriage to Irvin E. Clark. Together they farmed in Leland, Wis., later relocating to the Reedsburg area and continued farming. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1973. Viola enjoyed family gatherings. She came from a family who enjoyed making their own music. They would gather on weekends and play guitars, banjos, violins and the harmonica. They would sing and dance and enjoy the simple pleasures. The tradition is carried on today with the rest of the family. Viola also liked playing cards, crafts, growing vegetables, watching her flowers flourish and playing her guitar. She liked to bake home-made apple pies and chocolate cake, only to give them away as people stopped by. She always thought she had the best grandchildren and she does. She held a special place in her heart for great-grandson Dillion, who was born with cerebral palsy. She also hoped she would see the day when he no longer needed his wheelchair. She is survived by: five daughters, Bernice "Bonnie" Ormond of Baraboo, Shirley (Gary) Cahoon of Dodgeville, Loma (Jay) Sherwood of Montello, Judy (Junior) Rose of Baraboo and Mary (Jerry) Holt of Baraboo; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; three step-grandchildren; a special friend and companion of 25 years, Dean Wegner of Montello; two brothers, Orrin (June) Palmer of Lake Delton and Chandler Palmer of Reedsburg; a sister, Juanita Marks of Baraboo; brothers-in-law, LaVerne (Agnes) Clark of Rock Springs and Irv Knudson of McFarland; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Clark of Baraboo; many nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends. Viola was also preceded in death by: her parents; an infant son, Elmer; two brothers, George and Worden; five sisters, Leona, Julie, Adeline, Ethel and Mildred; son-in-laws Laverne Pagel and Doug Ormond. Funeral services for Viola M. Clark will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2003 at the Farber Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Walters officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Reedsburg. Friends may call on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Clark, Walter G. Jr. Walter G. "Bud" Clark Jr., 74, Baraboo, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004. He was born on Dec. 10, 1929, in Ligonier, Penn. to Walter G. Clark Sr. and Jennie (nee Roddy) Clark. On April 6, 1958, he married Ursula L. Compton at Otis Air Force Base in Bourne, Mass. Walter was a veteran, serving in the United States Air Force for 13 years. He worked at the Oxford Correctional Institution for 16 years, and retired from the Loretto Federal Prison in Pennsylvania on March 21, 1990. He had also been employed at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells for two years. Bud was an AWANA leader for 20 years. His parents and a niece preceded Walter in death. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ursula L. Clark, Baraboo; two sons, Earl (Marilyn) Williams Jr., Westfield, and James D. (Lisa) Ray, Madison; four grandsons, Aaron (Stacy) Williams, Adam Williams, and Tracy and Tony Ray; great-grandson, Ryan Adam Williams; brothers, Tom (Dorothy) Clark, Penn., and Barry (Rita) Clark, Penn.; sisters, Helen Shaulus, Penn., Kathrine Clark and Audrey Clark of Washington, and Virginia (Earl) Rice, Michigan; sister-in-law, Alice P. Compton, Reedsburg; special sister friend, Patricia Pliner; nieces and nephews, along with many other relatives and dear friends. Funeral services for Walter G. "Bud" Clark were conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19 at the Bible Baptist Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Richard Krenz, Pastor Gerald Marsden and Pastor Scott Buhrow officiating. Military rites were conducted at the church following the service. Burial was held on Friday at Highland Memory Garden in Madison. Friends called on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m at the Farber Funeral Home in Reedsburg and on Thursday from noon until the time of service at the church. Clark, Gary B. Gary B. Clark, of North Freedom, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2001 at his home at the age of 56. Gary was born on May 26, 1945 in Antigo, Wisconsin, to Gerald and Eunice (Fraley) Clark. He graduated from Antigo High School and attended UW Milwaukee and Madison. He enjoyed fishing and golf. Gary will always be remembered for his quick wit and ability to remember and tell a good joke. Gary is survived by his son Jay of California; a special friend Karen Fabisiak and son Bill Fabisiak; two sisters, Barb (Gary) Seiberlich of Milwaukee and Beverley (Ed) Bolding of Las Vegas, Nevada; stepfather Victor Moas of Antigo; two aunts, Ruth Smith of Virginia and Peachie Hall of Eugene, Oregon; and faithful companions Speckles and Cujo. He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald Clark and Eunice Moas. Memorials may be made to the Good Neighbor Clinic in Prairie Du Sac. Clavadatxcher, Martha (Benz). February 17, 1955 Mrs. Martha Clavadatscher, 73, of Baraboo, passed away suddenly on Thursday evening at St. Mary’s Ringling hospital where she had been taken earlier in the day following a heart attack. Mrs. Clavadatscher had been a resident of this vicinity all of her life. She was a faithful member of the Evangelical United Brethren church and the various societies of the church. Mrs. Clavadatscher is survived by three nieces, Mrs. George Schenck of Park Ridge, Ill., Miss Marjorie Stoner of Baraboo and Mrs. Hilda Talley of Baraboo, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tobias in 1934, three brothers, Albert, August, and William Benz, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Stoner. Funeral services for Mrs. Clavadatscher will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at the Scheible funeral home with the Rev. Karl F. Koch officiating. Burial will be made in Tucker cemetery, Greenfield. Friends wishing may call at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 and in the evening from 7 to 9. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the church.

 Cochrane, Hazel M. Hazel M. Cochrane of Sauk City died Tuesday March 26, 2002 at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo. She was 78. Mrs. Cochrane was born in Montreal, Canada, on Oct. 6, 1923, the daughter of the late James and Mary (Bannerman) McKenzie. She was united in marriage to Richard Cochrane on May 21, 1946. She retired from Snow White Garment factory in Baraboo. Mrs. Cochrane is survived by her husband, Richard of Sauk City; a sister-in-law, Lena McKenzie of Wilmington, Del.; best friends, Mike and Mary Schell of Baraboo; and nieces and nephews. There will be no services. Interment will be at a later date in the Sauk City Cemetery.
Colburn, Viola M. (Lange). Mrs. Viola M. Colburn, age 91, of Boynton Beach, Fla., died Sunday, July 17, 1988 at her residence. She was born Sept. 28, 1896, in North Freedom, the daughter of Charles and Cora (Simmons) Lange. She had worked for the U.S. government for over 20 years as a clerk typist. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Hypoluxo, Fla. Mrs. Colburn has resided in Boynton Beach for over 30 years. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Polly Wagner of Wisconsin Dells and Mrs. Elsie Worth of North Freedom. Graveside services will be held Friday, July 22, at 3:30 p.m. in Oakhill Cemetery of North Freedom. Pastor Penny Roth will officiate. The Hanson Funeral Home of Baraboo is in charge of arrangements.

Collins, Gerald R. Gerald "Jerry" R. Collins, age 72 passed away on Friday evening, Sept. 7, 2001 at his home. Jerry, the son of Bert and Elizabeth (Falk) Collins, was born on Feb. 28, 1929 in Baraboo. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. Jerry was united in marriage to Betty "Lou" Palmer on Nov. 16, 1954 in Baraboo. He managed the Clark Station on Broadway for 37 years until his retirement in 1991. Jerry was a member of the Church of God in West Baraboo. He was a life member of the Baraboo Elks Lodge #688 and was a member of its Waiter's Club since it's inception. Jerry was an avid bowler and enjoyed coaching junior bowlers. He is survived by: his wife Lou Collins of Baraboo; four children, his daughter Jane Williams of Baraboo, his son Kim Collins of Independence, Mo., his son Tracy Collins of Rock Springs and his daughter Cindy Collins of Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; six siblings, Orville (Margaret) Collins of Michigan, Arlene Boyd of Baraboo, Duane "Pat" (Donna) Collins of New Mexico, Dean Collins of Platteville, Gary Collins of California and Phillip Collins of Texas; other relatives and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by: his parents; a grandson, Daniel Heiser and three brothers, Audrey, Lawrence and Richard. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001 at the Church of God in West Baraboo with Pastor William Haskins officiating. Interment will take place in the Walnut Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, Sept. 10 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo and on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until the time of services, at the church. Combs, Robert Lee. Robert Lee Combs, age 58, of Merrimac, Wis., died Saturday, June 14, 2003 following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 4, 1944 in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Robert and Esther (Clark) Combs. After attending high school in Epsworth, Iowa he entered the Navy. He served in Vietnam and received the Vietnam Service Medal. After leaving the Navy, he returned to Iowa and married Gloria Jean Shondel of Fairfield, Iowa. He moved to Wisconsin where he became a Sauk County deputy. He served as a detective and became a sergeant. He retired in October of 1997. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Baraboo, Wis. She was also a scout leader for many years, helping his son become an Eagle Scout. Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and brother, Daniel Combs. He is survived by: his wife, Gloria; daughter, Laura (Lee) Snider of Michigan; son, Eric R. Combs of Georgia; and granddaughters, Erica and Erinn Snider of Michigan; mother, Esther Cote of Iowa; brothers, Nathan of Florida, Kim of Arizona; sisters, Susan (William) Chickering of Henderson, Nev.; Sandra (Robert) Wagner of Baraboo, Wis.; Sylvia LaRue of Florida; Dixie Norton of Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2003 in Baraboo at the First United Methodist Church, with Lay Pastoral Associate George Burgess officiating. Visitation will start at 10 a.m. at the church with the service to follow at 11.

Cone, Timothy James. Timothy James Cone, age 45 of rural Lodi, died suddenly on Sunday, August 10, 2003 as the result of injuries received in a motorcycle accident. He was born in Sparta on March 6, 1958, the son of Earl and Calverea (Abbott) Cone. Tim was employed at Alkar Company in Lodi for over 20 years. He was proud of his sobriety and an active member of A.A. He loved motorcycles, was well liked and will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by a daughter, Michelle (friend Michael) Cone of Baraboo; his mother, Calverea Cone of Sparta; brother, Eugene Cone of Prairie du Sac; sister, Ruth (Virgil) Ballweg of Sauk City; sister-in-law, Cheryl Cone of Waunakee; special friend, Cindy; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; sister, Ada Marie; and 3 brothers, Paul, Earl Jr. and Michael. A funeral service will be held at SAUK PRAIRIE EVANGELICAL CHURCH, Prairie du Sac, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2003. Burial will be in Sauk City Cemetery. Costerisan, Donald W. Donald W. Costerisan, 64, Reedsburg, died suddenly on Thursday, June 6, 2002 in his home. He was born on April 8, 1938 in Reedsburg, the son of Freddie and Margaret (nee Good) Costerisan. Don was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Berlin Crisis. On Sept. 11, 1965 he married the former Donalin J. Clark. Don was employed in the maintenance department at Lands' End for the past several years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Lin; two daughters; Debbie (Phil) Raupp, Reedsburg, and Dixie (Corey) Schroeder, Neillsville; three grandchildren, Betsy, Ben and Brock; one brother, Richard (Carol) Costerisan, Reedsburg; his stepmother, Margaret Sabin, Arpin; special aunts and uncles; other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rock Springs with Rev. Paul Schroeder officiating. Interment with military rites will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. Counsell, Donald. Donald Counsell, age 67 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin was called home Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at his own house in Wisconsin Dells. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 6, 2003 at 7 p.m. at Picha Funeral Home in Lake Delton, Wisconsin with Reverend Steven Keller officiating. Cremation will follow. Donald was born December 13, 1935 in Reedsburg, Wisconsin the son of Kenneth and Pricillia (Owens) Counsell. He attended colleges in Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a degree in Elementary Education. Donald was wed to Mary Ann Sissel in Albuquerque, New Mexico on December 7, 1978. He was also a member of the Wisconsin Dells Lions club. Don is survived by his wife Mary Ann, his sons; Scott (Sherry) Counsell of Wisconsin Dells, Douglas Wentz of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, and Matthew Counsell of Texas, his daughters; Paula Gossett of Alabama, and Shayna Counsell of Madison, Wisconsin, his brother Duaine (Donna) Counsell of Baraboo, Wisconsin, and his sister Beverly Bauman also of Texas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Jeremy Wentz, Rachel Galeos, Jesse Gossett, Katie Wentz, Joey Wentz, McKenzie "Twinkle Toes" Counsell, and by one great grandchild; Sasha Galeos. Donald was preceded in death by parents, and by his son, David Wentz. Cowles, Philip R. Philip R. Cowles, 80, of Baraboo, passed away on Sunday morning, March 24, 2002 at his home. Philip, the son of Ray and Iva (Hackett) Cowles, was born on July 15, 1921 in the town of Greenfield. He was united in marriage to Lorena Stopper on November 10, 1941 in Baraboo. Philip had farmed in Greenfield Township all of his adult life and was also employed as a heavy equipment operator with the Olin Corporation for 18 years. He is survived by his wife, Lorena Cowles of Baraboo; three children, Richard (Marilyn) Cowles of Reedsburg, Donna (Wayne) Mueller of Baraboo and Susan (Dale) Coleman of Santa Fe, New Mexico; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Judith Wallsch of Baraboo; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Philip was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26 at the Redline Funeral Home in Baraboo with Father Dale Coleman officiating. Interment will take place at the Walnut Hill Cemetery. Crandall, Morris C. Baraboo News December 6, 1952 Morris C. Crandall, aged 85 years, resident of Baraboo for many years, passed away this morning at the St. Mary’s Ringling hospital, where he had been taken from the Starkey Rest home, which had been his home for many months. Mr. Crandall was born on the site on which the McGann-Hanson funeral home now stands. It is believed he received his education here. Mr. Crandall had spent many years in the west before returning to Baraboo to make his home. The history of this region was one of Mr. Crandall’s great interests and during late years his unusual memory and knowledge of events here had aided anyone interested in setting down data about the region and people who lived here. He had made substantial contributions to the work of the Sauk County Historical society of which he had been secretary for many years resigning this office only a few months ago. At the time the historical museum was established here, he had been active in securing and arranging exhibits and he had for many years served as curator for the museum. He was also an active member of the Congregational church of this city, and of the Fortnightly Literary club. Surviving Mr. Crandall is a niece, Mrs. Irma Faust, of Montgomery, Ala., who had spent several weeks here recently at the time the old Crandall homestead was sold and the household furnishings were disposed of. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the McGann-Hanson funeral home, the Rev. Robert Lane officiating. Burial will be made in the Walnut Hill cemetery. Friends wishing may call at the funeral home Monday afternoon and evening.

Cronn, Irene Helen. Irene Helen (Rudolph) Cronn, age 74 of North Freedom, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2002 at the Sauk County Health Care Center. Irene, the daughter of Fred and Johanna (Schlegel) Rudolph, Sr., was born on August 4, 1927 in Baraboo. She was united in marriage to Raymond Cronn on July 4, 1951. Irene was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, raising her six children, caring for the garden and her flowers. Later in her life she was employed at St. Clare Hospital for many years until her retirement. She was the loving mother of David L. (Diana) Cronn of Madison, Dan R. Cronn of Rock Springs, Randy S. (Dixie) Cronn of Baraboo and Annette M. Cronn (Scott Hall) of Baraboo; grandmother of Tina, Sarah, Almanzo, Melissa, Joshua, Adam, Travis, Jessica, Damon, Stephanie, Stacy and John; great-grandmother of Damien and Desmond; sister of Eleanor (Edward) Stinebrink of Lake Geneva, Fred (Sue) Rudolph, Jr. of Rock Springs Joan Woodward of Neillsville; and sister-in law, Florence McGilvra of Reedsburg. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. In addition to her loving husband, Raymond, Irene was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jeffery T. and Kevin B. Cronn; and a brother, Clarence Rudolph. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 7, 2002, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo with Pastor Thomas Fricke officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom. Friends may call on Thursday, from 12:00 noon, until the time of services at the Church.  Crook, Frank P. a native of Reedsburg, died suddenly at his home in Reno, Nevada, on March 8, according to word received by Frank Camp of this city. Mr. Crook was born in Reedsburg on May 3, 1888, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Crook. John Crook was mayor of Reedsburg at the turn of the Century, and was engaged in the retail hardware business. Frank Crook received his early education in this city and in 1902 he moved with his family to Whittier, California, and later attended UC-LA. In 1940 he moved to Reno and had been engaged in ranching and guest ranching there for the last twenty years. He retired two years ago. He is survived by his widow, three sons, and seven grandchildren. The funeral was held at Trinity Lutheran church in Reno of which he was a member, and burial was at Mountain View cemetery. Crook, Catherine. Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Catherine Crook which occurred last Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. J. Sharpless, at Whittier, California. A more extended notice will appear next week. Taken from the Reedsburg Paper of May 12, 1905. A search of the next week's paper did not show any information regarding Mrs. Catherine Crook.

Cook, Peter. Mayor Crook received a telegram last Friday, March 3, 1899 announcing the death of his father Peter Crook, at Whittier, California, with a statement that the funeral was to be held on the Sunday following. Mr. Crook has been afflicted with eczema for two years, and his health had been very bad of late, so the announcement was not altogether unexpected. Peter Crook was born February 28, 1826, at Bolton, England. He immigrated to America in 1848, locating first at Philadelphia. He married in that city, and in 1848 moved west with his family locating at Baraboo. In 1862 he moved to Ironton and established the hardware business now owned by his son W. H. Crook. He was a successful business man, and accumulated considerable property, among which are some fine buildings at Storm Lake, Iowa. In 1892 he took a trip to Whittier, California, and being pleased with that country bought a farm and a residence lot in the village. He is survived by Mrs. Crook and their children as follows: Mrs. Sarah Keith of Storm Lake, Iowa, John Crook of Reedsburg, William H. Crook of Ironton, Catherine Jones of Mazomanie, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Anna Butman and Mrs. Martha Staples of Whittier, California. Mrs. Peter Greenhalgh of Reedsburg is his sister. He enlisted during the war of the rebellion and served in the 50th Wis. Vols., and was a member of the LaValle GAR Post. Taken from the Reedsburg Free Press of May 9, 1899.
Crook, Ada Emily. Mrs. Ada Emily Crook resident of Whittier, California passed away there last week. She and her husband, the late William Crook, left Ironton in 1900, and he was one of the first real estate brokers in Whittier. Throughout her life Mrs. Crook was an active member of the Methodist Church, the W.C.T.U. and the Red Cross. She is survived by one son, George Crook and three grandchildren. Crook, William H. William H. Crook, 65 years of age, for 23 years a resident of Whittier, died in his home on North Washington Avenue this morning after a prolonged illness. Mr. Crook was vice president of the Whittier Savings bank for the past 20 years and was at one time a member of the board of directors of the First National Bank. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ada E. Crook, and one son, George W. C rook, and three sisters, Mrs. Lewis Butman, Mrs. John Jones and Mrs. Edgar Sharpless. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 in the White Emerson Chapel, Rev. John Oliver of the Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be made in the Whittier Heights Memorial Cemetery. William Crook was a former resident at Ironton and a brother of John Crook who went to California from this city.  Crook, Rose (Lawrence). Mrs. Rose Crook Burial was made at Rose Memorial Park in the West Mausoleum at Whittier. Rose Lawrence was born October 1, 1854, at Canandaigua County, New York. She was married to John Crook at Ironton, Wisconsin February --, 1877. The earlier part of their life was spent in Reedsburg, where Mr. Crook conducted a hardware store and was active in all civic affairs. He was the Mayor and appointed the first Library Board there. He built the home now owned by Dr. James Thompson, where the family resided until 1901 when the family went to Whittier, residing at 421 East Philadelphia Street, a place so dear to her, although business encroached, yet money could not tempt her to sell. Mrs. Crook had been in failing health with heart impairment for more than a year, but was able to be about the home most of the time, however her sons insisted that she should have a good nurse, who most tenderly cared for her and she had every care that devoted sons could give. Her life was beautifully lived in the home, she being devoted to her family, her church and her loved friends., widow of John Crook, one of the pioneer business men of Whittier, California and forty years ago a leading business man and Mayor of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, were held in the Plymouth Congregational Church of Whittier, California, of which she had been a loyal member since 1903, the service being conducted by Rev. Dr. Hugh Lovell and Rev. E. E. Day. She loved California, yet she ever retained interest in friends of Ironton and Reedsburg, Wisconsin, all these years, an interested subscriber and reader of the home paper with its news of friends by bygone days. March 18th, on the beautiful hilltop, surrounded by loved ones amid a profusion of flowers she was placed in a crypt beside him whom she had married 62 years before, there awaiting the resurrection morning, sure and firm i n his promise who she was and whom she served all her life. Cruice, Judy A. Judy A. Cruice, age 51, of Baraboo, died on Tuesday, December 4, 2001, at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo. She was born on May 22, 1950, the daughter of Leonard and Clara (Simpson) Louis. Judy was preceded in death by her brother, Steven and sister, Mary. She is survived by her husband, Michael of Baraboo; children, Jennifer (Tim) Haskins of Baraboo and John (Nicole) Cruice of Baraboo; grandchildren, Claudia Rose, Owen Michael and Rachel Marie; parents, Leonard and Clara Louis of Rock Bridge; mother and step-father-in-law, Coletta and Richard Zanon of Cazenovia; sister, Jean (Paul) Paulson of Plymouth, WI; brother, Jim (Gina) Louis of Chaseburg, WI; six sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Judy A. Cruice will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 8, 2001, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lime Ridge with Father Lorin Bowens officiating. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 PM at the Cazenovia Chapel. The rosary will be prayed at 8:00 PM.

Culbert, Fred. Baraboo News December 14, 1950 Fred Culbert, Baraboo, passed away at St Mary’s Ringling hospital, Monday, December 4, 1950 at the age of 76. Mr. Culbert was born in Peshtigo, Wisconsin, on June 4, 1874. Survivors are a daughter Mrs. R. R. Rozaky of Fort Worth, Texas; a son Robert of Hamilton, California; two sisters Mrs. Jessie Barker of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Fannie Alguire of Gladstone, Michigan; and two brothers Claude of Manchester, Washington, and Ace of Peshtigo, Wisconsin. Mr. Culbert was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for 49 years. He was retired in 1942. Funeral services were held at the McGann funeral home on Dec. 8, 1950. Burial was in the Walnut Hill cemetery.
